When I first started juicing, I had no clue what type of juicer I should get. So, I opted for the cheapest one. After being left with a messy cleanup and many veggies getting stuck, I got frustrated and didn't want to juice anymore. But, I knew the health benefits of juicing were good so, I decided to try again. This time, I did my research and I discovered that a slow juicer would be the best choice. I also discovered that they can be a bit pricey. I kept searching and found the Megawise Pro Slow Masticating Juicer. It fit my budget and the cleanup is super easy. (Ad)

I have heard the term inflammation tossed around a lot when talking about health. However, I never really understood the connection to disease. Recently, I heard the best explanation of what chronic inflammation was and how damaging it can be to our bodies. The light finally came on and I got it. This put me into action mode and I wanted to find ways to combat this condition. In my search, I discovered Jamu. The ingredients and vibrant color really caught my eye.

Jamu Juice is an Indonesian Medicinal Drink that has many variations. I decided to create a version of my own and make it vegan by replacing honey for agave. I juiced about 4 large Honey Crisp Apples for this recipe. The juice was delicious and sweet. I probably could have left out the Agave all together. But, the flavors came together well and the juice was so refreshing. I of course had to take a couple of bites of the apples while juicing.

To up the citrus flavor I combined fresh squeezed orange juice to lemon juice. Lots of vitamin C going on in this drink.

I am having a half a glass of this drink in the mornings. And I may drink another half of it at night before bed. I am hoping that it will help with muscle stiffness and provide immune support during this winter season. I am storing it in the refrigerator and believe it will keep for about a week.

To make this drink you will need:

  • 1 C Peeled and Chopped Tumeric

  • 1/4 C Peeled and Chopped Ginger

  • 4 C Cold Pressed Coconut Water

  • 4 Large Honey Crisp Apples (Should yield 2 C of juice)

  • 2 Large Oranges (Yields 3/4 C of juice)

  • 2 Large Lemons (Yields 3/4 C of juice)

  • 2 T Agave Syrup

  • 1 Pinch of Black Pepper

In a food processor pulse chopped Tumeric and Ginger until small granules. Add 4 Cups of Coconut Water and blend until smooth as possible. Remove the mixture and add to a saucepan. Simmer on medium heat for 15-20 minutes. Allow to cool.

Once the mixture has cooled, strain the liquid by pouring it through a mesh strainer. Squeeze out as much juice as possible from the pulp that is left in the strainer. You may also use a cheese cloth to strain the juice from the pulp. Pour strained liquid and remaining ingredients into a pitcher or bottle that can be used to store it in the refrigerator.
